AMERICAN THERMAL POWER

Electricity from Low Temperature Waste Heat

Electricity from very low temperature waste heat (90ºF/32ºC and up)

20,000,000 MWH of easily captured heat energy is wasted in the U.S. every day, equal to the energy 11 million barrels of oil per day -- all the imported oil the U.S. consumes. Converting only 10% of this energy to electricity is worth $200 million per day, $70 Billion per year, forever, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 600 million tons annually. Saving this money would create over 1,000,000 new jobs in the U.S.

Commercial air conditioning/refrigeration systems and power plants pass waste heat to the environment, typically at about 120ºF/49ºC, far below the temperatures required by heat engines. The simple technology to capture this heat has existed for decades.  However, the technology to use this low temperature heat to make electricity has not been available, until now.

Our Very Low Temperature Heat Engine (VLTHE) technology combines technologies proven for decades and centuries, in a novel and uniquely valuable way. Our VLTHE system uses very low temperature heat (90ºF/32ºC and up), from any source, as fuel to make power.

According to U.S. and international patent searches, we have the only commercially viable technology to make useful power from low temperature waste heat (90ºF/32ºC and up). Our patents are pending in the U.S. and worldwide.

The VLTHE is scalable from 10kW to 10MW per system, to serve two main market segments: commercial buildings and power plants.  Commercial buildings with air conditioning and/or refrigeration can use systems from 10KW to 1MW or more, while power plants can each use multiple 10MW units.

Low Temperature Heat Energy wasted

in the U.S. today and every day:

20,000,000 Megawatt-hours (MWH)

= 1.77 times the total electricity we use per day,

= Power from 8 million tons of coal (88,000 rail cars)/day.

= The energy in 11,000,000 barrels of oil per day (more than we import)

Converting just 10% of this to electricity saves:

1.6 Million Tons of Greenhouse Gas Emissions per day

             =  emissions from 100,000,000 cars

$200,000,000 per day

= 1 million jobs that don’t exist now

This energy is easy to capture from commercial air conditioning/refrigeration systems and from power plants.

Now we don’t need to waste it any more.
